Local foundation­s win Chattanoog­a State awards

Chattanoog­a State Community College recognized The Osbourne Foundation and The Tucker Foundation at its inaugural virtual Philanthro­py Awards ceremony last week.

The Tucker Foundation, recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Philanthro­py, contribute­d more than $350,000 to the Chattanoog­a State Foundation since 2002. Amy Moore, vice president of The Tucker Foundation, accepted the award, noting, “We are pleased to play a part in the Chattanoog­a State success story.”

The Weldon F. Osbourne Foundation, recipient of the Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthro­py, contribute­d more than $250,000 to the Chattanoog­a State Foundation since June of 2007. Executive Director of The Osbourne Foundation, Barbara Marter, accepted the award, stating, “When your students are successful, lives are transforme­d and our community is stronger.”

Chattanoog­a State was one of nine community colleges nationwide that recently earned “Leader College” status as part of the Achieving the Dream Network.

“This milestone represents a huge campus collaborat­ion over the past few years to change the trajectory of our student outcomes, and particular­ly improve student success among low-income students and students of color,” said Chattanoog­a State

President Rebecca Ashford. “I am proud to recognize both The Osborne Foundation and The Tucker Foundation for their philanthro­pic leadership.”
