How to Build a Girl
Johanna Morrigan (Feldstein) is an aspiring writer, but the 16-yearold feels trapped within the confines of her large family’s tiny apartment. When her father loses his disability benefits, Johanna summons up the courage to apply for a position as a rock critic at D&ME, a London music paper, in the hopes of bringing in some cash. Elated to have landed the job, she dyes her hair bright red, upgrades her style and adopts the pen name “Dolly Wilde.” She becomes enamored with the rock scene and falls deeper and deeper down a rabbit hole of sex, parties and rock ‘n’ roll that, while bringing her closer to her dreams, also pulls her away from friends and family. Intergalactic worlds collide when the planet Rhea refuses to accept any more refugees from the uninhabitable Earth, leaving thousands of Earthlings stranded on their ship. Earthling settler Bran (Moyer) elects to stop further hostilities from Rhea by reluctantly teaming up with a Rhean woman (Gouveia).
