Darrin Allen Carey, 55, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at his home in Avon, Indiana following a tenmonth battle with pancreatic cancer.

Darrin was raised in Wheatland, Indiana before relocating to Chattanoog­a, Tennessee in 1987.

Darrin graduated from South Knox High School in 1984, earned his nursing degree from Chattanoog­a State Technical Community College in 1987 and his Bachelors in Business in 2011. Darrin worked as an RN at Memorial Hospital in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee from 1999 until 2002. It was there he met his future wife, Penney (Chism) Carey. Darrin worked at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee from 2002 until 2013, most recently in Quality Management. In 2013, Darrin returned to Indiana, working at IU Health Medical Management where he was Director, Quality. Darrin had a passion for creating. He was an avid gardener, created stained glass windows and loved to spend the day cooking and baking for his family. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fillmore, Indiana.

Darrin leaves his wife of 19 years Penney Carey, daughter April Ballard (Chad), daughter Kathryn Carey and son Clayton Carey. He also leaves three grandchild­ren, Will Muir, Katelyn Ballard and Katlyn Whited, great-granddaugh­ter Makinlee Muir, mother Mary Kathryn Byrd Carey, sisters Sandra Bradley (Frank) and Sue Ann Day (David), a brother Richard Carey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Wednesday 8/12 from 2-5 at Hopkins Rector Funeral Home (Bittles and Hurt), 4 Percy L. Julian Drive, Greencastl­e, IN and Thursday from 11-12 at Bethel Baptist Church, 7484 East Range Line Road, Fillmore, IN 36128
