As one of the final tuneups before the stretch run begins in the GHSA softball season, this weekend’s SCORE International Tournament at Camp Jordan was a mixed bag for area teams.

Host Gordon Lee emerged as one of the big winners, going 5-0 to improve to 17-3. The Lady Trojans, nine-time state champions under coach Dana Mull, capped their weekend in East Ridge with a 5-4 win over another reigning state champion, Ringgold, on Anniston Hudson’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday.

“I think we grew a lot as a team this weekend,” Mull said. “We made mistakes at times, but I’m proud of how they bounced back from them. Ringgold is a great team, and it was a high-intensity game. We needed a game like that, and it was nice to come out on top.”

Hudson and Emma Langston (also the winning pitcher) each had two hits, with Jordan Dyer, Allie Farrow and Emma Minghini driving in one run apiece.

Ringgold’s Caroline Hemphill was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Riley Nayadley was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Earlier in the day, Gordon Lee needed just four innings to defeat Haralson County 16-4, with three homers among the team’s 16 hits. Dyer, Hudson and Addison Sturdivant each went deep, with Dyer and Hudson driving in three runs each.

The Lady Trojans opened the tournament Friday with wins over St. Pius X, Cass and Tattnall Square Academy. Sturdivant had a homer and Ashlyn Schmidt went 3-for-3 with three runs in an 11-3 win over Pius, Minghini tossed a three-hitter to beat Cass 2-0, and Dyer had two hits (one a homer) and two RBIs in a 5-1 win over Tattnall.
