Downtown lands a new Chipotle restaurant
North Shore eatery to be brand’s 3rd in Chattanooga
Chipotle Mexican Grill is planning a third Chattanooga location with a restaurant to open on Chattanooga’s North Shore.
The restaurant is slated for 20 Cherokee Blvd. in the 10/ North Building, according to a Chattanooga building permit.
The estimated cost of the buildout is $300,000, the permit said.
Chipotle spokesman Tyler Benson said the company has another restaurant opening in Chattanooga toward the beginning of 2021. He said the eatery will hire about 25 people.
The 10/North Building was put up by Chattanooga- based Vision Hospitality Group.
Vision, Chattanooga’s largest hotel developer, raised the fivestory, 84- unit apartment building on what had been a vacant lot near Renaissance Park.
The apartment complex, which officials estimated at costing “north of $10 million,” holds commercial space on the ground floor where the Chipotle restaurant is slated to go. A Starbucks cafe also sits in nearby space.
The North Shore has seen an array of new apartments, condominiums and townhouses in recent years, and more are underway.
In October, Benson said a Chipotle restaurant was to open next year at 5242 Highway 153 on part of a tract that for many years held the Pep Boys auto store.
He said then that plans are for the Hixson restaurant to open next summer. The permit put the construction cost of the Hixson building’s shell by CBI General Contractors of Cumming, Georgia, at $200,000.
At the 10/North Building, work is ongoing at the planned restaurant, which would sit at the corner of Cherokee Boulevard and Manufacturers Road. A building permit put the size of the space at 2,926 square feet.
Late last year, Chipotle opened its first Chattanooga
restaurant on Gunbarrel Road near Hamilton Place mall.
The fast- casual eatery has a menu that includes burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, salads and is known for its chips and guacamole.
