Blue Raiders wrestle to 6-0

One of Tennessee’s most dominant high school athletic programs continues to thrive.

Since 2013, no other school has more TSSAA wrestling team state championsh­ips than Cleveland’s 12 (six duals, six traditiona­l), and the Blue Raiders improved their duals record to 6- 0 this season with Tuesday’s 48-21 home win against Signal Mountain at the Jones Wrestling Center.

Cleveland and Signal Mountain were tied at 15 through the first seven matches before 152-pounder Robert Laxton got a 20-point streak started for the hosts with a 19-4 technical fall. After back-to-back wins by forfeit, the Blue Raiders built a 35-15 lead as Tetoe Boyd edged Preston Worley 5-3 at 182.

The Eagles received pins from Kevin Muschel (195) and Noah Shriner (120), along with decisions from three-time state champion Daniel Uhorchuk (126), Kale Albritton (138), 7-6, and Richard Shipley (145), 5-4.

Cleveland’s Logan Fowler (106) started the match with a sudden death 3-1 victory, while Bentley Ellison ( 113) pinned his opponent for a 9-0 lead. The Blue Raiders accumulate­d 30 points from five forfeits.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

› Christian Heritage 72, Boyd Buchanan 56: Jax Abernathy scored a game-high 29 points as the Lions jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead on their way to victory. Cash Hare added 13 points and Zundra Jackson 12 for Christian Heritage. For Boyd Buchanan, Jacob Shockley scored 19 and Caden Johnson 15.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

› Christian Heritage 46, Boyd Buchanan 43: The Lady Lions were resilient as they outscored the Lady Buccaneers 26-15 in the second half in Tuesday’s home win. Emily Idom led Christian Heritage with 15 points, Mary Kate Humphrey added 13 and Haddie Chambless had 12. Boyd Buchanan’s Dani Reeves scored 17 and Yani Garner added 16.
