‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions, skillet curling among entertainment options
Do you have what it takes to impress the judges on “America’s Got Talent?” Your first step toward that opportunity is coming up next week. Here’s what to know about regional auditions for the show and a look at how you can be entertained with events around town in the meantime.
› “AGT” auditions: Producers of “America’s Got Talent” are turning their sights to the Southeast for the next round of virtual auditions for the 16th season of the NBC hit show. Acts can be of any age and showcase any talent. Past winners have ranged from singers and musicians to dog trainers and ventriloquists. You’ll need to sign up virtually at www.agtauditions.com and submit auditions on Jan. 27, so get to work on those videos.
› Documentary films: The 2021 Jewish Documentary Film Series, presented virtually, is underway with “Shared Legacies: The African AmericanJewish Civil Rights Alliance,” available through noon Thursday, followed at 7 p.m. by a Zoom panel discussion about local African American and Jewish involvement in the civil rights movement. Next week, “Syndrome K” will be available for virtual viewing from noon Tuesday to noon Thursday, in advance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27. “Syndrome K” is the true story of three Roman Catholic doctors who “invented” a highly contagious disease to hide Jews during the Holocaust. › Rock music: The Signal, 1810 Chestnut St., will rock out this weekend with Chattanooga band Lenox Hills on Friday and Zoso: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience on Saturday. Drumming Bird and Daniel Nunnelee will open for Lenox Hills. Both shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$30 Friday, $30-$35 Saturday. Purchase at thesignaltn.com.
› Ice skating: Ice on the Landing, the temporary rink at the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex, 1400 Market St., will host a Skillet Curling Championship this weekend. Competition is scheduled 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. Spectator admission is free. Public skating costs $10 for adults, $8 for children 12 and younger. The rink closes Monday. › Classical music: The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will offer virtual access to a recent performance of music for string quartets starting Tuesday. The performance features music by Dvorak, Elgar and Ravel. Access is $10 and good for 30 days. Find the link at chattanoogasymphony.org.
