James (Jim) Templeton, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

James or Jim as he was known by his friends and coworkers retired in 2016 after over 50 years of service as the Director of City Wide Services in the Public Works Department of City government as his dad and grandfathe­r did before him.

His Grandfathe­r L.H. Templeton joined the City in 1930 and was promoted to the position of Director where he retired after 32 years. Jim’s father, James H. Templeton was also Director of Public Works where he put in 37 ½ years and retired in January 1976.

Jim was always proud to have followed both his Dad and Grandfathe­r in the same department overseeing the daily operations of City Services.

He took pride in helping people, which is what he loved about working for the City of Chattanoog­a. Jim was loved by so many in the Chattanoog­a area.

Jim was a member of the Alhambra Shriners and a past master of the Fidelity Masonic Lodge 558.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Templeton.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Templeton; daughter, Holly (Shawn) Benton; granddaugh­ter, Piper Benton; siblings, Lynn Wilson, Thelma (Jim) Wells, Bob Templeton, Lee Templeton; 3 loving dogs, Chaka, Gucci, Bella; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID pandemic the family will hold a private memorial service on Thursday, February 11, 2021 in the funeral home chapel with Jan Hartley officiatin­g.
