Ringgold Democrat will run against Marjorie Greene

- BY PATRICK FILBIN

Holly McCormack, a Democrat from Ringgold, Georgia, has announced she will run against U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Rome, for Congress in 2022.

McCormack made the announcement official on Wednesday with a campaign video posted to Twitter. Originally from Northwest Georgia, she writes on her campaign website that she and her family settled in the Chattanooga area after her father’s military career.

In the video, abandoned storefronts on McFarland Avenue in Rossville show an area where McCormack feels work can be done to revitalize the economy.

Elsewhere on her website, McCormack has highlighted strengthening small businesses, expanding broadband internet and addressing the decline of rural health care as her three main issues.

A spokesperson for Greene did not respond to a request for comment Thursday evening. Greene made headlines this week by posting a video of herself placing a poster outside the offices of Congresswoman Marie Newman, D-Ill., that

read, “There are TWO genders: Male and Female. Trust the Science.”

The poster was in response to the Equality Act that she said would cause “discrimination against women and religious freedom.”

It was also in response to Newman placing a transgender flag outside of her own office so Greene would see it. The two are across-the-hall office neighbors in Washington, D.C. Newman is the mother of a transgender child.

In a tweet responding to Greene’s video, McCormack said the Congresswoman is “all stunts, and no substance.”

“I’m here to talk about the REAL ISSUES impacting Georgians,” McCormack tweeted. “She can take her circus somewhere else, because we’re going to take her seat.”

Greene ran largely unopposed in the November election before heading to Washington. Kevin Van Ausdal, the Democratic nominee, dropped out of the race less than two months before the election because he was forced to move back to Indiana after divorcing.

There are three other Democratic challengers who have filed to run against Greene: Marcus Flowers of Bremen, Lateefah Conner and Brittany Trambauer-Smith, both of Dallas.
