CBS pulls plug on ‘MacGyver’ reboot
The latest reboot of “MacGyver” has been blown to smithereens.
CBS’ reboot of its classic 1985 series will conclude with its fifth season finale on April 30.
“The MacGyver team traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own,” CBS Entertainment chief Kelly Kahl said in a statement about the cancellation. “We’re gratified we get to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful manner this series deserves.”
The action-packed adventure series star “MacGyver” star Lucas Till took to social media to share their reactions to the action series ending.
“Where to begin? The past five years have been what I will look on later as THE most formative years of my life,” he wrote on Instagram. “Lots of tough, lots of love. I made life long friends, actually no, family. I learned to push myself to new limits, breaking through and through and through. Was nervous to take up the mantle of an icon and you guys allowed me into your homes and accepted me.”
“I’m like the Roger Moore of MacGyvers now thanks to your support. Lol,” he said referencing the famous James Bond actor, who starred in the 007 movies after Sean Connery originated the role in a series of movies. “But this is also a love letter to my cast and crew, to those who have been with us since day 1 or day 1000, through those oppressive summer days in the Georgia heat, where the humidity envelopes you like a warm sweater to the below freezing winter days where the worst part about it is that no one believes you when you say it gets cold in Georgia.”
Filmed on location in Stockbridge, Georgia, “MacGyver” featured Till as young war hero Angus “Mac” MacGyver, who with extraordinary knack for unconventional problem solving and genius-level scientific knowledge, becomes a live saver with his secret government high-risk organization.
“The city of Stockbridge was delighted to be the filming location for CBS’s popular television show ‘MacGyver,’” Stockbridge assistant city manager Camilla Moore said in a statement in 2019. “We were thrilled to welcome the cast and crew to City Hall, and we are even more excited to see the upcoming episode appear on the big screen very soon. Stockbridge has become a favored filming location in recent years for a number of productions. We enjoy the collaborations.”
A reboot of ABC’s hit 1985 series of the same that ran for seven seasons, the reboot premiered September 23, 2016, also starred Tristin Mays, Justin Hires, Meredith Eaton, Levy Tran and Henry Ian Cusick.
