Normal Park Museum Magnet (preK-8)

› Housed in two historic buildings, this high-demand magnet school incorporates artwork and innovative teaching styles into its curriculum. Featured nationwide for its model, success and parent engagement, Normal Park has repeatedly claimed top spots in rankings by Magnet Schools of America and others. In 2020, the school was one of 22 across the state to be awarded the Tennessee STEM School Designation for their commitment to teaching STEM or STEAM and to preparing students for college and career success. A long-range plan for the district calls for closing the aging facility and moving students to nearby Chattanooga High Center for the Creative Arts, which would be renovated and expanded into a K-12 magnet school with room for an additional 280 students. CCA, meanwhile, would move downtown.
Rivermont Elementary (preK-5)

› Named a 2018-2019 Tennessee Reward School for outstanding student success in achievement and growth. Thanks to a recent outpouring of community support, Rivermont has built new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) labs, updated classrooms and replaced its dated playground for students of all abilities. Yet a long-range plan for the district calls for closing the facility and moving the student body to nearby DuPont Elementary, which would be rebuilt to also welcome those from Alpine Crest Elementary in a brand-new facility for 1,200 students in grades K-5.
Red Bank Elementary (preK-5)

› In addition to traditional classroom learning, Red Bank Elementary offers a forest kindergarten program in which learning is associated with building homes out of sticks in the woods, collecting and identifying plants, and mud-painting rocks lining the creek bed. Started in 2016, it was the first of its kind in Hamilton County. Parents can simply request one of the 20 slots for their child during the school’s kindergarten registration. In 2020, RES was one of 22 schools across the state to be awarded the Tennessee STEM School Designation for their commitment to teaching STEM or STEAM and to preparing students for college and career success.
Red Bank Middle 595

› Named a 2018-2019 Tennessee Reward School for outstanding student success in achievement and growth, RBMS — and North Chatt-zoned Red Bank Elementary — is part of a three-year pilot focused on holistic student success. Launched in 2019 in partnership with the Harvard Education Redesign Lab’s By All Means initiative, it will develop customized support services based on the needs of each child through in-school and out-of-school support coordinated with organizations in the community.

Average ACT score: 18.7 composite › Serving as a pilot for the rest of the county, Red Bank High houses the area’s first “Community School,” which offers afterschool support for both students and local residents. Students may get extra help with schoolwork while parents or other community members study to receive a state-issued high school equivalency credential, for example. The school connects with partners to offer wraparound services, like an on-site counselor from the Helen Ross McNabb behavioral health center or immigration information nights with Latin-centered nonprofit La Paz. RBHS also houses the BlueCross Technology Academy and the Institute of Social Media Marketing and Sports Management, two of the district’s Future Ready Institutes which partner with the local business community to offer career-themed education. In 2020, RBHS was one of 22 schools across the state to be awarded the Tennessee STEM School Designation for their commitment to teaching STEM or STEAM and to preparing students for college and career success.
Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts (6-12)

› Named a 2018-2019 Tennessee Reward School for outstanding student success in achievement and growth, CCA has won numerous awards and exemplary designations from organizations including the Tennessee Department of Education, U.S. News & World Report, the Arts Schools Network and Magnet Schools of America. The dedicated fine-arts magnet school features classes in acting, dancing, music and visual art in addition to a liberal arts curriculum. A long-range plan for the district calls for turning the existing facility into a K-12 magnet school and moving the current program downtown, also expanding it to grades K-12 in a facility for 1,200 students.
