He grew up in Des Plaines, IL and joined the Navy after high school where he spent 2 years stationed in Chicago. After his son’s birth he moved to Colorado and became a devoted Bronco fan where he would spend his Sunday afternoons rooting for the orange and blue. He was a member at Silverdale St. Elmo Baptist Church of Chattanooga. If he wasn’t looking into his family’s genealogy he was metal detecting for civil war artifacts and other historical treasures.

He is also survived by his siblings, brother, Bob Leonardson of Sturgeon Bay, WI; brother, Ray (Dora) Leonardson of Sturgeon Bay, WI; brother, Royce (Deb) Leonardson of Ironton, OH, and sister, Sandra Lucas of Port Richey, FL.
