Catoosa County Board of Education approves Charles Nix as superintendent
Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School Principal Charles Nix has officially been named Catoosa County Public Schools’ next superintendent.
The county Board of Education voted unanimously to approve his appointment Thursday. He will replace outgoing Superintendent Denia Reese, who has served as superintendent in Catoosa County since 2005, effective April 1.
Nix said he was honored to accept the job and would continue the “tradition of excellence” Reese is leaving behind.
Catoosa County Board of Education Chairman Don Dycus said he thought Nix was the right choice for the superintendent position because of his experience and dedication to putting students first in his decision-making.
Nix, who has worked for the Catoosa County public school system for the past 15 years, succeeded Terri Vandiver as principal at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School in 2017.
Before beginning his career in education, Nix was a deputy sheriff with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office and worked at the high school as a school resource officer. In 2008, he was hired to teach public safety at Heritage High School, and in 2014, he became assistant principal at West Side Elementary School, working alongside then-Principal Mike Rich. He returned to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School as assistant principal in 2015.
As a graduate of Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Nix was recognized as an Alumnus of the Year in 2018. In 2019, he earned honors from the Technical College System of Georgia. He holds a master’s degree in education curriculum and instruction from Lincoln Memorial University, among other degrees.
Nix’s wife, Heather, is a teacher in the county school system, and both of his daughters, Hailey and Savannah, graduated from Catoosa County Public Schools.
