Receivers via the NCAA transfer portal have worked out well for the Tennessee Volunteers the past two seasons, so why not try again?

Isaiah Neyor, who led Wyoming this past season with 44 receptions for 878 yards and 12 touchdowns, announced Saturday afternoon on social media that he was going to continue his college career with Josh Heupel’s Vols. The 6-foot3, 210-pounder from Fort Worth, Texas, averaged 19.95 yards per catch and scored 12 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore for the Cowboys, who concluded a 7-6 season with a 52-38 topping of Kent State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

“Vol Nation, let’s rock!” Neyor posted on Twitter.

Eight of Neyor’s touchdown receptions transpired in the last six games.

Tennessee landed Southern California’s

Velus Jones Jr. through the transfer portal in January 2020 and snagged Mississippi State’s JaVonta Payton last May. Jones amassed 22 catches for 280 yards and three touchdowns for the 2020 Vols, and this past season Jones and Payton had a combined 80 receptions for 1,220 yards and 13 scores.

Jones and Payton no longer have any eligibility remaining in Knoxville, so Neyor not only adds proven productivity but still has three seasons remaining due to the NCAA’s added year implemented at the coronavirus outbreak.

As a redshirt freshman in 2020, Neyor hauled in eight receptions for 248 yards. His 31.0 yards per catch would have led the nation, but he needed four more receptions to qualify for the NCAA rankings.

Neyor was a two-star prospect in the 2019 class.
