Madewell, a retail apparel brand that operates nearly 150 stores across the country, has brought its trademarked denim jeans and other women’s fashions to Warehouse Row.

Madewell leased a total of 3,489 square feet on the first floor of Warehouse Row, which was formerly used by Amanda Pinson Jewelry and Shadowbox. Amanda Pinson operated at Warehouse Row for more than a decade before the business shut down in October.

With the opening of the Madewell store last month, the entire first floor of the five-story Warehouse Row is now leased, according to Gail Battle, the broker in charge for the mixed-used facility. Battle, who works for the Atlanta-based Simpson Organization that bought Warehouse Row in 2016, said fashion sales in the complex are up an average of 46% so far this year over 2021.

“We are very pleased with the traffic throughout the center,” Battle said in an emailed statement. “Adding another national retailer to Warehouse Row is always exciting and Madewell rounds out our current mix and has been extremely well-received by both current tenants and shoppers.”

On its website, Madewell brags that “we make great jeans” and “we’re also pretty good at all the things you wear with them— easy tees, cozy sweaters and comfy sneaks.”

In 2006, the J.Crew Group Inc. introduced Madewell, a modern-day interpretation of an American denim label founded in 1937. Targeting women ages 18 to 40, Madewell has a flagship store in New York City and other stores nationwide.

The clothing giant J. Crew proposed to spin off Madewell but canceled the initial public offering in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 260,295-squarefoot Warehouse Row is a collection of restored Civil War-era, mixed-use buildings on the corner of Market and 12th streets in Chattanooga.
