Born February 22, 1940 to Frances O’Bannon and Foster Petrie, Sandra Louise Petrie Hughes passed June 15, 2022 after a long illness.

She was predeceased by children, Patrick Hughes and Kelly Hughes Linderman and grandson, Dylan Linderman. Survivors include brother, Dick (Jeanette) Petrie and sons, Michael (Karin), Matthew, and William (Jordan) Hughes. Also surviving are daughters, Kathleen Perkins, Michelle (Doug), and Megan Hughes and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sandra was a lifelong learner and teacher. She graduated from Bellflower High School in Los Angeles County, CA in 1958. Going back to school at fifty, she attained an A.A. from Chattanooga State Community College and a B.A. (Education) from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She taught Kindergarten through fourth grade in Reno, NV and locally for two decades. Sandy made good friends and memories during her years at East Lake Academy and Hillcrest Elementary and loved her students.

Sandra enjoyed books, music, art, cinema, antique cars, cross-country travels, and Kohl’s shopping trips. She is remembered for her steadfast faith, excellent baking, fastidious housekeeping, great sense of style, and opinionated personality. We are thankful she is healed and at peace.

Foremost in Sandra’s heart was love for Jesus Christ; she constantly praised God. An active member of New City Fellowship (Glenwood), she volunteered both in her church and community. Special thanks to kind neighbors and longtime friends for their support. Memorial contributions may be made to New City’s GLAD tutoring program, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, or the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga.
