Leon Holmes
Leon Holmes, “Nig”, “Big Poppa”, 60, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at his residence.
He attended Riverside High School. Leon was a brick mason for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington Hills where he sang in the Male Chorus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Moore; mother, Martha Holmes; stepfather, James Holmes; brothers, Robert, James, and David Holmes; aunts, Roberta Bynum, Gustavia Davis, Helen Pollard, and Lorene Moore; uncle, Matthew Moore; and mother-in-law, Alma Murphy.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Charity Diane Holmes; daughters, LaKiesha Holmes and Shameka Holmes (Phillip), both of Indianapolis, IN; stepson, Marcus (Carlita) Simon of Chattanooga; 4 grandchildren; father-in-law, Sylvester Murphy of Chattanooga; brothers, Walter Holmes of Chattanooga and Charlie Holmes of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Martha Holmes, Mary (Johnny) McClain, Bertha (Douglas) Thomas, and Priscilla Green, all of Chattanooga; brothers-in-law, Robert and James Murphy, both of Chattanooga; sister-inlaw, Carolyn Justice (Tracy) of Chattanooga; uncles, Thomas Benson of Indianapolis, IN and John Lee Moore of Chattanooga; aunts, Mildred Benson of Indianapolis, and Hennie Wade of Chattanooga; close cousins, DeBorah Benson of Indianapolis and Debra Moore of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and close friends.
Leon will lie-in-state today from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ronnie Bullard as the eulogist. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
