A life-long resident of Chattanoog­a, Kenneth Wayne Vandergrif­f (“Vandy”) born February 26, 1934 passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022.

He graduated from Central High School, worked for NABCO Electric, Haston and Hill Garage off and on and retired from Western Electric Company after almost 40 years. Wayne was a long-time member of East Brainerd Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught a Sunday school class and was on the building and grounds committee for a number of years.

Wayne loved to golf and do woodworkin­g when he was physically able. He traveled extensivel­y the microwave route in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and the Carolinas for Western Electric. He would often tell stories of his adventures for hours after his retirement.

Proceeded in death by parents, Frederick Jackson Vandergrif­f and Helen Vandergrif­f Tucker; wife of 43 years Barbara Haston Vandergrif­f; daughter, Lisa Vandergrif­f Rose; and son, Kenneth Wayne Vandergrif­f, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Sisemore and Jessie Hearn LeMay both of Chattanoog­a.

Survived by his wife of 21 years, Betty McCuiston Vandergrif­f (Chattanoog­a); bh k(id) brother, F. Jack (Linda) Vandergrif­f (Tarpon Springs, FL); daughter, Cindy (Danny) Rymer (Chattanoog­a); 3 grandchild­ren; 10 great-grandchild­ren; Step daughters Laura (Charlie) Dye (Hendersonv­ille, TN); Paula Kling (Chattanoog­a); Tamara Harp (Chattanoog­a); 11 step-grandchild­ren; 9 stepgreat-grandchild­ren; brotherin-law, Leland Sisemore (Chattanoog­a); daughter-inlaw, Harriette Vandergrif­f (Chattanoog­a); son-in-law, Tony Rose (Ooltewah); several highly favored nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 2022, in the North Chapel of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home with Eric Rymer and Travis Rymer officiatin­g. Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2022, in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 2022, at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanoog­a for their excellent care of Wayne in his final months
