LITTLE RIVER, SC Michael Wayne Murphey, passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2022. Mike now joins his friend, Don White, so they now can continue to play golf that they so enjoyed.

Mike was born in Charleston, SC on July 11, 1954. He was the son of the late Paul Meyers and Sybil (Robbins) Murphey and stepfather Reid Murphey. Mike was a 1972 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chattanoog­a, TN where football was his passion. He recently attended his 50th high school reunion where he reconnecte­d with so many friends. He loved watching both golf and football and was an avid Carolina Panther and Tennessee Volunteers fan. Following in his stepfather’s footsteps, Mike learned the textile business from the ground up. In the late 1990’s, he went to Honduras to start a business. He was there for ten years and left to come home to take care of his mother.

Mike is survived by his significan­t other, Barbara Novak; sisters, Donna Ferreira of Raleigh, NC and Robin Murphey of Belmont, NC; daughters, Nicole Murphey and her husband Brian Tych and their daughter Philippa of Charlotte, NC and Andrea Murphey and her mother Marcela Saybe of San Pedro Sula, Honduras; a stepdaught­er, Katherine Cabanas of Myrtle Beach, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was predecease­d by his sister, Paula Young and his former wife, Maxine Murphey. A celebratio­n of life will be planned at a future date. Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Murrells Inlet (843.651.1440) is assisting the family.
