Carolyn Beam

Our sweet Mother, Sister and “Mimi”, Velma “Carolyn” Beam, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2022. She was a faithful servant and loved her family. Born in Scottsboro Ala., she made Chattanooga her “home” town. She resided with her husband, Jim, in Warner Robins, Ga. for several years pre-retirement. Carolyn had the gift of being an encourager to many. She offered her home for hospitality and comfort to family and friends. Her faith and walk with God were unwavering. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, Central Baptist of Warner Robins, Ga. and Lookout Valley Baptist. Her work included over 25 years as a pharmacy assistant to James F. Brackett at the Lookout Valley Drug Store. There she oversaw retail operations and the Branch Post Office. Her people skills were amazing…she never met a stranger. She was a member of the Judge David Campbell Chapter of the DAR, past member of the Eastern Star, and taught Girls In Action classes at Lookout Valley Baptist. A talented seamstress she made many clothes for her daughter, Brenda, and other family members. Her favorite role was being a grandmother to her 4 grandchildren and great grandmother to 5 “babies”. She was preceded in death by her parents Odie and Addie Marie Whitehead, two brothers, Petey and Tommy, and grandson Jarrod Purcell. Left to treasure her memory are a sister Cathy Guinn (Mickey) children Douglas (Karen) Beam and Brenda (Mike) Purcell. Grandchildren Zach Beam, Lacey (Hunter) Brown, Ross (Shelby) Purcell, and Granddaughter Ashley Purcell. Great grands Jayton and Tilly Beam, Addie and Austin Purcell, and Brody Brown. Many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Special thanks to staff at Morning Pointe (Hixson), Dominion, Everlan and Ascension for her care. Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel with visitation on Thursday Oct. 20th at 6:008:00 p.m. and graveside service to be on Friday, Oct. 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
