David Beryl “Mickey” Soloff, Jr., 1930 – 2022, also known as Mickey, passed away at his home Saturday, October 15, 2022 in Saint Lucie County, FL.

He was the man, the myth, the legend, was proof of the American dream. To have known him was a cherished blessing.

Mickey loved food, eating out was a punctual ritual. So much so you had best be on time or you’ll be without. He enjoyed a good game of golf into his young age of 92. You would also catch him watching a good movie, football game or out for a morning stroll when he wasn’t adding to his wealth of knowledge. He valued life and everyone around him. Mickey was married 38 years to his lovely bride Norma Jean Soloff. Father of three children Alta Soloff, David Soloff, III and three step-children Christine Norton of Saint Lucie County, FL, John Norton of Melburn, NC and Matt Norton of Chattanooga, Tenn., six grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Jack “Mark” Soloff, his brother Sam Soloff, and his parents David Soloff, Sr. and Vera Camp Soloff. Instilled with the desire for hard work and perfection, he led by example, encouragement and personal responsibility. He started out in the Navy then graduated from Tennessee Tech University as a Civil Engineer. His career began with TVA in the Division of Power Engineering and Construction.

His drive for entrepreneurship led him to starting his first specialty company estimating and supplying structural and steel, bar joist, metal doors, frames and windows to the construction industry. Later he formed and operated Foam-Crete a roofing, fire proofing company, Soloff Construction Company, Soloff Properties and Crown Properties. Retirement was not part of his vocabulary and 72 years later he still served as President and Chief Executive Officer of all the above companies.

He was recognized for his outstanding leadership and dedication as chairman with International Masonry Institute. Received the Industry’s highest award—the “Lead Man Award”. During the Carter Administration, he received a Meritorious Citation for work in the re-organization of the Government Supply Agency (GSA). Reducing millions of dollars in expenses. He was elected to The Marquis Who’s Who Publication Board in the South and Southwest Eighteenth Edition. Mickey served many local and national organizations in an advisory position. Including Director of Souvran Bank of Chattanooga, a member of Tennessee Tech’s Board of Chamber of Commerce, International Council of Shopping Centers, and the Construction Specification Institute of America. A Generous Soul without greed or envy. Free of this earth that had grounded his passion to fly his twin Cessna 340 airplane.

He will be cremated and laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery. There will be no funeral or visitation hours. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society. Celebration of Life at a later date.
