RINGGOLD - Eugene “Gene” Jones, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 12, 2022, at his home. He was a native of Rock Spring and had lived most of his life in Ringgold. Gene was saved at the age of 62 and was a member of the Burning Bush Baptist Church and the Gleaner’s Sunday School Class. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War receiving the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He retired in 1981 as a Firefighte­r with the United States Government in Fort McCellan, Alabama. In his retirement years, Gene could be found helping others in need as he was a Jack of all trades. He loved planting and working in his garden every Spring and he enjoyed fishing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Matilda Jones; and brother, Lester Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Sarah Jones; children, Dickie Wayne Jones and Tressia Ann May; grandchild­ren, Joshua Jones, Christophe­r Marcus Lyles, and Beth Howard; great grandchild­ren, Gavin Lyles and Jeremiah Jones; and twin sister, Eugenia Kaylor.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00p.m. at Burning Bush Baptist Church 2195 Burning Bush Rd. Ringgold, GA 30736 with Pastor Dennis McNulty and Colin Crosen officiatin­g. Mr. Jones will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will follow in the Rock Spring UMC Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 48p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
