Homeless man is convicted of stabbing woman
A homeless Dalton, Georgia, man was convicted for stabbing a woman who authorities said allowed him to stay at her home.
Shaquae Divine Robinson, 29, was convicted last week by a jury in the stabbing incident that took place July 13, 2021, according to a news release from the Conasauga Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s Office.
The Conasauga Judicial Circuit presides over two Georgia counties: Murray and Whitfield. Bert Poston, Conasauga Judicial Circuit district attorney, could not be reached for comment before deadline.
Robinson faces 40 years in prison for two felony charges, aggravated assault with intent to murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and an additional five years for the use of a knife in the commission of a felony. He will be sentenced Jan. 4.
According to investigators in the case, Robinson was allowed to stay at a Dalton woman’s home for a few days. After an argument, the release said, Robinson stabbed the resident in the neck.
“Video evidence showed a man in an orange shirt running from the crime scene towards Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.” the release said. “Robinson was apprehended a short time later on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd wearing an orange shirt with a knife in his pocket.”
Georgia Bureau of Investigation forensic biologists found the blood on Robinson’s knife and shirt matched the victim’s DNA.
At the time of the incident, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported that witnesses said the victim was stabbed after she blocked the doorway to her home and told Robinson he was no longer allowed inside. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to the release, Robinson was on parole for terroristic threats based on an incident in which he threatened to kill a Dalton police officer.
Also before the 2021 stabbing incident, Robinson had been convicted of three other felonies. Based on his conviction on three felony charges prior to the 2021 stabbing, Robinson will not be eligible for parole and will serve his time day-for-day, according to the district attorney’s office.
Robinson has been in custody since his arrest and will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing.
