Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute elects new executive director
The Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute has named longtime committee member Meghan Greene as its new executive director.
She fills the vacancy created last August when Kim Shumpert left after four years as top executive to become director of operations for Lift Media Group Inc.
Greene served for the past three years as director of development for A Step Ahead in Chattanooga, a nonprofit agency that works to remove barriers to contraception through education, outreach and access to birth control. Greene previously was executive director for Breast Cancer Support Services for three and a half years.
“We conducted a very thorough search and, as a very involved CWLI member and nonprofit leader, Meghan’s application just rose to the top immediately,” Autumn Witt Boyd, a Chattanooga attorney and former institute chairwoman, said in a phone interview. “She is really a shining star among the applicants, and we’re thrilled that she has taken over as executive director.”
In a phone interview, Greene said she has personally experienced the benefits of the institute’s leadership training and networking programs.
“I’m honored to be part of CWLI’s next phase as we continue to cultivate female leadership, foster connections and create new partnerships in our region,” Greene said in an announcement. “I hope to be able to help other women benefit in the way that I have and also to help benefit the business community in a city where I was born and raised.”
Founded in 1996, the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute now serves more than 600 members around Chattanooga, working to increase the leadership capabilities and influence of women. The institute aims to elevate more women into leadership positions in government, business and education.
Moving beyond formal or technical education, candidates pass through a roughly fiveto-seven-year leadership journey to join a network of more than 3,000 professionals.
