James “Bud” Anderson

On February 5, 2024, James (Bud) Anderson (85) was reunited with the love of his life, Peggy. Bud was a hero to his family, and a man of integrity, honor, and passion. He was not a very tall man but he towered in his deep commitment to God, family, country, and work. He was the knight in shining armor to anyone he loved, never asking if they needed help, but how he could help. He was also well-known for helping his neighbors and community whenever there was a need. He enjoyed volunteer work such as Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. He served on his neighborhood’s security patrol and his church’s board, and was often the first one his family and neighbors called upon when they had an emergency.

Bud was born on August 20, 1938, in Rossville, Ga., to parents James C. and Frances Anderson, and lived most of his life in Chattanooga, Tenn. He fell hopelessly in love with a spunky, precocious young woman, ultimately marrying her in 1962, and their love affair continued for 57 more years. His entire work history, which never ended completely, was in the food industry. He started his work career cleaning up at a local fishery as a teenager, became a highly successful salesman for various food distributing companies, ultimately owned a food distributing business, and created meal kits for the military. His last job, which he was continuing to do, was at Sam’s Club in Riverview, Florida, handing out food and other samples. He enjoyed piddling in the house, doing yardwork, watching old cowboy movies, and looking for his latest new gadget to be delivered by Amazon.

He leaves behind his two sisters, Yvonne Fugatt (Tommy) and Evelyn Cordle (Wayne); 3 children, Robin O’Malley (David), Jim Anderson (Tammy), and Terri Anderson (Melody); 5 grandchildren, Patrick O’Malley (Ginger), SSG Ryan O’Malley (Katie), Heather Carnes (Chris), Matt Anderson (Esther), and Emily Anderson; 7 great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Sydney, Colin, Garrett, Connor, Sammy, and Lucas; and many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him greatly.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel, with services following. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens
