Student charged after Tyner school gets bomb threat

A Hamilton County student is facing criminal charges for making a bomb threat against Tyner Academy during a prank call.

The juvenile, who was not identified by authorities, was charged Tuesday with making false reports and making a threat of mass violence on school property, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement.

Hamilton County detectives discovered a student from another school made the threat Feb. 15 as a prank call, the statement said.

The student had no intention of committing any violence against Tyner Academy, the statement said.

“However, the bomb threat against Tyner Academy was a very serious incident that required a massive response by law enforcement and emergency personnel, along with causing a three-hour disruption and fear to the students and faculty at Tyner Academy,” the statement said.

Criminal charges were filed against the student in Hamilton County Juvenile Court because of the serious nature of the threat, the statement said.

No additional details were available Tuesday due to the individual’s age, the statement said.

There were two bomb threat incidents last week at Hamilton County schools, according to the sheriff’s office.

An East Hamilton Middle School student was charged with threatening mass violence on a school property, the sheriff’s office announced in a separate statement.

Deputies received a report Feb. 14 about an East Hamilton Middle School student who was on campus and had threatened to plant a bomb in the school.

The school was checked, and no device was found, the statement said.
