Reserve LB Woods out for Bears

-

Bears inside linebacker Josh Woods was ruled out for Sunday’s game with what the team called a personal reason.

To take his place, the Bears on Saturday promoted linebacker Devante Bond, who was signed to the team only Friday. Bond played for the Bears last year and was cut in July.

Woods did not play a single down for the Bears on defense in Week 1, but appeared on 19 special teams plays. His absence leaves the Bears perilously thin at inside linebacker behind starters Danny Trevathan and Roquan Smith. Joel Iyiegbuniwe, who played three defensive snaps last year, is the top reserve. Ankle injury shelves WR Thomas

Saints receiver Michael Thomas will miss his first game in four years after being ruled out for Monday night’s road game against the Raiders with an ankle injury.

Thomas has not yet been placed on injured reserve, however, which would require him to miss at least three games. So that leaves hope that the star receiver could be back soon.

Thomas, who set an NFL record with 149 catches last season, did not practice all week.

Meanwhile, the Raiders could again be without their top two right tackles. They listed starter Trent Brown and backup Sam Young as doubtful. Linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski also is listed as doubtful with a pectoral injury.

Lions put starting guard Dahl on IR

The Lions will be without a starting offensive guard against the Packers. The team put guard Joe Dahl on injured reserve due to a groin injury on the day before playing the Packers on the road. Oday Aboushi will likely replace Dahl in the lineup. Guard Kenny Wiggins was signed off the practice squad. The Lions also downgraded defensive tackle Nick Williams to out.

Niners will be without edge rusher Ford

The 49ers have ruled out edge rusher Dee Ford against the Jets. Ford had been listed as questionable initially before being ruled out. The team also announced that offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Ford got hurt in practice this week and joins AllPro tight end George Kittle (knee) and star cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) as players sitting out this week for the Niners.

Injury updates

The Falcons will be without a key member of their cornerback rotation for the second week in a row after ruling Kendall Sheffield out of Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Sheffield is recovering from a foot injury and wasn’t able to practice all week.

Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin has officially been ruled out of Sunday’s home opener against the Panthers. He had returned to practice Friday for the first time since entering the concussion protocol on Wednesday. Sun-Times staff and wires
