Wife says Sharks’ Kane threw games for profit

-

The NHL said it will investigate an allegation made by Sharks forward Evander Kane’s wife that he bet on his own games and intentionally has tried to lose for gambling profit.

The league said Saturday on Twitter that it was made aware of socialmedia posts by Anna Kane and plans to conduct a full investigation.

‘‘The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously,’’ the NHL said in its post.

Anna Kane wrote: ‘‘How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he’s obviously throwing games to win money? Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.’’

She then added: ‘‘Can someone ask [commissioner] Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?’’

In an email to the Associated Press, a Sharks spokesman wrote: ‘‘We support a full and transparent investigation into the situation to maintain the integrity of the game and consistency with our team values.’’

A casino in Las Vegas sued Kane in 2019, alleging he failed to repay a $500,000 gambling debt racked up during a playoff series against the Golden Knights.

Washington adds two more to COVID list

Washington All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff and fellow offensive lineman David Sharpe went into the coronavirus protocol, making them the fifth and sixth players on the team to be put on the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list.

Washington is second-to-last in the NFL in percentage of players to receive at least one dose of a vaccine, and only the Cardinals have more players in the protocol.

†NFL Network reported that Vikings rookie quarterback Kellen Mond tested positive for COVID-19 and that starter Kirk Cousins is considered a high-risk close contact. The Vikings said ‘‘multiple players’’ were held out of practice because of the NFL’s COVID protocols.

Multiple outlets reported the Browns and running back Nick Chubb agreed to terms on a three-year, $36 million contract with $20 million guaranteed. Chubb, who was entering the last season of his rookie deal, averaged 10 yards per carry in the fourth quarter last season.

ESPN reported the Ravens signed outside linebacker Justin Houston to a one-year contract worth up to $4 million. He has made the Pro Bowl four times and has at least eight sacks in each of the last four seasons.
