Rangers rip ’Canes, force seventh game
Filip Chytil scored twice in the second period and the Rangers topped the Hurricanes 5-2 on Saturday night in New York to force a deciding Game 7 in their secondround playoff series.
Tyler Motte and Mika Zibanejad scored in the first period to get the Rangers started, Artemi Panarin tallied in the third and Adam Fox had two assists to help the team set a franchise record with its sixth straight home win this postseason.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 37 shots for the Rangers, who have not lost at home since a three-OT defeat to the Penguins in Game 1 of the first round. The Rangers won their fourth consecutive elimination game, including Games 5, 6 and 7 against the Penguins.
WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS United States falls in semifinals
Defenseman Miro Heiskanen had a goal and two assists as Finland clipped the United States 4-3 in Tampere, Finland, to set up its third consecutive world hockey championship final against Canada.
Dylan Cozens scored twice in Canada’s 6-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the other semifinal.
Nate Schmidt, Sean Farrell and Adam Gaudette scored for the Americans. Jeremy Swayman stopped 22 shots.
SOCCER Red Stars settle for a tie
Mallory Pugh and Rachel Hill notched first-half goals for the Red Stars (2-1-1) but Sophia Smith of the Portland Thorns (1-3-1) got the tying goal in the 47th minute during a 2-2 tie at Seat Geek Stadium.

GOLF Scheffler up by two at Colonial
Scottie Scheffler almost made it through another round at Colonial without a bogey, this time with wind gusting through the trees at Hogan’s Alley in Fort Worth, Texas. The world’s top-ranked player has the lead alone in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scheffler, whose only bogey so far this week came at No. 17 in the third round, shot a 2-under 68 with wind gusts of around 30 mph and temperatures in the upper-90s. His 11-under total was two strokes ahead of Brendon Todd, whose third-round 65 was bogey-free, and Scott Stallings (70).
† Stephen Ames carded a 4-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over Mike Weir and 64-year-old Bernhard Langer into the final round of the Senior PGA Championship in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
