Green gets offer from Illinois
The first Big Ten offer — Illinois — is in for Stevenson junior wide receiver Cameron Green.
“Being recognized by the Big Ten feels great because they are one of the best conferences in the nation,” Green said. “Illinois is a great school and a great program so I am honored to receive an offer from them.”
The offer from Illinois came just a few days after Green received his first offer from Toledo.
“I was jumping around with my mom and sister,’’ Green said. ‘‘We were going crazy about the offer when I received it because it was my first one. I had been talking to Toledo a lot and they had told me that they liked my film and all so I was kind of expecting it.”
Green made a trip to East Lansing to watch Michigan State play Saturday. He was joined by Stevenson wide receiver Matt Morrissey (a MSU commit) and junior defensive lineman Nick Dillon.
Interest picking up for Sykes
FOXSports/Scout.com threestar linebacker Nile Sykes of Montini is one of the top uncommitted prospects, and has offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Syracuse, Indiana and several others. But those schools aren’t the only ones on his radar.
“Recruiting is going great right now. New schools like Mississippi State, Northwestern, Missouri, and Wisconsin are all coming into the mix and wanting to see the film of my first few games,” Sykes said. “I haven’t decided on any visits yet. I have a couple games in mind but I plan on putting out [soon] where I will visit officially.”
In the meantime, Sykes is focused on helping Montini win its fifth state championship in a row.
“I am just playing my butt off to get back to that point; to where we can win our fifth state title,” said Sykes, a transfer from Oak Park-
River Forest.
Edwards is a wanted man
Another top junior prospect, Downers Grove North’s David Edwards, has been pretty busy with recruiting. Since summer started, he has added offers from Illinois, Indiana and Vanderbilt. But those aren’t the only schools that the FOXSports/Scout.com four-star quarterback has heard from in the past few weeks.
“I have heard from Michigan since then and mostly Big Ten schools,” Edwards said.
Edwards never expected his recruiting to pick up like it did.
“No, absolutely not.’’ he said. ‘‘I didn’t even think I would play quarterback to be honest with you.’’
