Garoppolo’s 6 TD passes fuel EIU rout

Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 477 yards and six touchdowns to power visiting Eastern Illinois to a 70-22 romp Saturday against Tennessee-Martin.

Garoppolo completed 26 of 46 passes, with Adam Drake finishing with 14 receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Jeff LePak added seven catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns, and Shepard Little ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers (11-1, 8-0 Ohio Valley Conference).

Garoppolo threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter and four in the first half. He threw seven touchdown passes in a game against Illinois State earlier this season.

The Skyhawks (7-5, 5-3) didn’t score until Jarod Neal passed to Jeremy Butler from 28 yards out in the second quarter.

Southern Illinois 31, Indiana State 9

Malcolm Agnew ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Salukis (7-5, 5-3) past the Sycamores (1-11, 0-8) in the Missouri Valley Conference finale for both teams in Terre Haute, Ind. Kory Faulkner completed 11 of 17 passes for 131 yards, and John Lantz had eight catches for 99 yards for Southern Illinois.

Northern Iowa 28, Western Illinois 13

Ray Mitchell returned two intercepti­ons for touchdowns, David Johnson ran for 156 yards and two more scores and the Panthers (7-5, 3-5) scored 28 unanswered points in the first half on their way to a Missouri Valley Conference victory against the Leathernec­ks (4-8, 2-6) in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
