BIG OIL LIES TO BLOCK COMPETITION AND PAD THEIR BOTTOM LINE

Big Oil is at it again, telling lies and attacking anyone who stands up for cleaning Chicago’s air and water. This time, they’re trying to kill an ordinance before the Chicago City Council that would make cleaner, Illinois- grown E15 available as an option to Chicago drivers. The facts are in, and E15 is:

CLEANER: E15 will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reduce the amount of carcinogens in Chicago’s air. According to Argonne National Laboratory, located right here in the Chicagoland Area, the biofuels in E15 reduce greenhouse gas emissions an average of 34 percent as compared to regular gasoline.

GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY: The renewable fuels industry supports over 73,000 jobs in Illinois that

cannot be outsourced.

HOMEGROWN: Using E15 means more of our gas dollars end up staying in America rather than being sent overseas. That means less reliance on foreign oil from hostile regions, and fewer troops risking their lives to protect foreign oil interests. Big Oil’s opposition is another way to line their pockets by blocking competition from Illinois- grown fuels, enabling them to continue polluting Chicago with toxic, cancer- causing emissions and byproducts, like petcoke. The Chicago Clean Air Choice Ordinance is popular in Chicago because it gives us the choice to use an alternative fuel that helps Chicago’s economy, cleans our air, and reduces America’s dependence on foreign oil.
