KOBE’S LAST HURRAH

-

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant announced he will retire after this season.

Bryant, 37, broke the news in a post Sunday on The Players’ Tribune. The decision wasn’t unexpected, given that he had said many times in recent weeks that he was considering making his 20th NBA season his last.

Bryant has scored 32,683 points — third in history to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone — in a career in which he has won five NBA championship rings and has been selected to 17 All-Star teams.

He was 4-for-20 and scored 13 points in the Lakers’ 107-103 loss to the Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers matched the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets for the worst start in NBA history, falling to 0-18 with a 92-84 loss to the host Memphis Grizzlies.

The 76ers led 76-71 with 7:38 left before the Grizzlies used a 15-1 burst to take control of the game.
