Clemens, Halladay spat

After receiving the equivalent of a brushback from former major-league pitcher Roy Halladay, Roger Clemens charged the mound in a socialmedia battle surrounding the 2016 Hall of Fame voting.

Halladay, a two-time Cy Young Award winner who retired in 2013 with 203 wins, 2,117 strikeouts and a 3.38 ERA, started the Twitter skirmish by saying that Clemens and Barry Bonds don’t belong in Cooperstown.

In 2007, Clemens was named in the Mitchell report as having allegedly used anabolic steroids in the latter part of his career, an allegation he denied in front of Congress in 2008. He later was charged with perjury for those denials as evidence of his PED use mounted, but he was found not guilty in a trial.

Clemens fired back at Halladay, saying it was “disheartening” to hear about “an illinformed player making an asinine statement.”

Meada, Dodgers finalize deal

The Dodgers finalized a eight-year, $25 million contract with Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda, a deal that could be worth $106.2 million if he stays healthy.

Maeda was 15-8 with a 2.09 ERA in 29 starts in 2015. In eight seasons with Hiroshima, Maeda went 97-67 with a 2.39 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

The Giants agreed to terms with outfielder Denard Span on a three-year, $31 million contract.

In 2013 with the Nationals, he led the National League in triples, then followed that in 2014 by leading the league in hits. Last season, hampered by injuries to his hip and core, Span appeared in a career-low 61 games.

The Royals signed former Cy Young runner-up ChienMing Wang to a minor-league contract.
