Kahl, David R.

-

Of Lewiston, NY, went home to God on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 23, 1949, to his amazing parents Beverley (Rogers) Kahl and the late Richard Kahl.

David attended Lewiston Red Brick School and Lewiston Porter School. Dave pursued his advanced education at Allegheny University, Niagara University, and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit. Dave went from college directly to a long and successful career at Eaton Corporation, beginning in 1973. Assignments in Battle Creek, MI, Kearney, NE and finally Southfield, MI, culminated in his position as Worldwide Marketing Manager, Eaton Controls Division.

A boating accident in 1998 led to early retirement and his desire to return to his roots and his aging parents brought Dave back home to western New York.

Always a kind and giving man, Dave served on many boards and committees. Most notably the Villa Condominium Association, the Tuscarora Yacht Club Board and he spent the last couple of years volunteering at the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, Fire Police. The YVFC was and remains the association he was most proud to have served in. The camaraderie and fellowship of giving that is the hallmark of the fire company, was a great source of pride and personal satisfaction for Dave.

David is survived by his loving husband, David Rhoades of Lewiston, New York; his dear mother, Beverley Kahl; one brother, Les Kahl; as well as his cousins, Susan, Lisa and Tripp; and lastly Dave leaves behind his buddy, "Buzz the wonder cat".

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, 625 Third Street, Youngstown, NY. Friends and family are encouraged to dress casually. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to the YVFC. Visit www.rhoneyfuneralhome.com, for guest register.
