Badgers name Gard coach

Wisconsin removed the interim tag from Greg Gard and named him the new head coach. Wisconsin is 13- 6 since Gard took over following Ryan’s abrupt retirement after a game on Dec. 15.

Travon Baker scored 18 points, including eight in a row in a key stretch late, and seventh- seeded Northern Illinois beat No. 10 seed Western Michigan 56- 50 in a Mid- American Conference tournament first- round matchup in DeKalb.

The Indiana Pacers signed point guard Ty Lawson. Lawson was arrested twice last year on drunkendriving charges, once in Denver and once in Los Angeles, and was traded from Denver to Houston last summer.

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Michael Carter- Williams will have season- ending left hip surgery.
