Tebow to show baseball skills

-

Tim Tebow will showcase his baseball skills for major- league teams next week in Los Angeles, USA Today confirmed Tuesday.

The former NFL quarterback has been training for the last several months in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Los Angeles as he makes inroads toward a major- league career. All 30 major- league teams have been notified about the showcase next Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the event told USA Today. The Cubs and White Sox haven’t decided if they’ll attend.

Tebow, who played for the Denver Broncos in 2010- 11 and the New York Jets in 2012, last played baseball regularly in 2004 as a junior at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. He hit .494 that sea- son before choosing to commit himself to football.

The Texas Rangers put outfielder Josh Hamilton on unconditional release waivers as he tries to come back from three operations on his left knee since September.

Hamilton, the American League most valuable player in 2010, had his most recent surgery on the knee June 8 to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament and repair cartilage damage. He’s hoping to be ready to play by spring training.

Kevin Gausman ( 5- 10) scattered six hits in six scoreless innings, Adam Jones went 4- for- 5 to lead a 13- hit attack and the Baltimore Orioles topped the visiting Washington Nationals 8- 1.

Yordano Ventura ( 9- 9) and three relievers combined on a seven- hitter, and the Kansas City Royals extended their winning streak to nine games by blanking the host Miami Marlins 1- 0.
