Man gets 9 years for beating fiancée with brass knuckles
A southwest suburban man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for beating his fiancée while wearing brass knuckles earlier this year in Lockport.
Robert Szymanski, 26, of the 1700 block of Hamilton in Lockport, pleaded guilty to domestic battery- related charges in June and was sentenced on Friday, prosecutors said.
Szymanski got angry at his fiancee after consuming alcohol and Xanax on Jan. 16, a statement from the Will County state’s attorney’s office said. He first threw her down onto the couch and choked her with his hands before punching her in the head and body while wearing brass knuckles.
At one point during the attack, Szymanski choked his fiancée unconscious and then choked her again with his belt after she awoke, the statement said. Throughout the attack he told her that she was his “property.”

Man charged in E. Garfield Park shooting
Aman has been chargedwith a shooting that left aman seriouslywounded early Wednesday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
Travas Norwood, 26, was charged with one count each of aggravated battery/ discharge of a firearm and attempted first- degree murder, according to Chicago Police.
At 12: 53 a. m., the 23- year- old victim was in the 500 block of North Kedzie when a vehicle approached and the man got into an argument with a passenger, who then pulled a handgun and fired shots, police said. Ashlee Rezin
Man killed in Uptown shooting

3N. W. Side businesses robbed in 1 hour
Three businesses were robbed at gunpoint within one hour Thursday night on the Northwest Side.
The first robbery happened about 7: 30 p. m. in the 2700 block of West Montrose, police said. The second happened at 8: 10 p. m. in the 5000 block of North Cicero. The third occurred at 8: 30 p. m. in the 5300 block of North Milwaukee.
The suspect is described as a 16- to- 25- yearold black male between 5- foot- 7 and 5- foot- 10, weighing 130 to 160 pounds, police said. Hewas wearing awhite T- shirt, blue jeans, a baseball cap and gym shoes. Anyone with information is asked to call ( 312) 744- 8263. Sun- TimesWire
2 carjackings reported in Evanston
Police are investigating two carjackings reported just over three hours apart from Thursday night to early Friday.
A 39-year- oldwomanwas sitting in her black Mazda CX- 9 about 9 p.m. in the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue when two males approached her and one of them pulled out a handgun, according to a statement from Evanston police. They took her vehicle and her wallet and drove off westbound on Dempster Street.
About 12:08 a.m. Friday, a 36- yearold woman had just parked her gray A cu rain the 1700 block of Washington Street when two males walked up to her, police said. One of them brandished a handgun and demanded her keys and purse. The suspects then drove away.

Man shot, critically wounded in Gale wood
A man was critically wounded in a shooting in the Galewood neighborhood Friday evening on the West Side. The 35-year- oldwas standing on a corner at 6: 12 p. m. in the 1500 block of North Meade Avenue when amale got out of a vehicle and shot the victim in the head and chest, police said.
