Yanks rookie Sanchez makes some history

Rookie catcher Gary Sanchez set a major- league record by hitting yet another home run, Starlin Castro went 4- for- 6 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBI and the New York Yankees rolled to a 13- 5 victory Saturday against the visiting Baltimore Orioles.

Sanchez reached 11 career homers faster than anyone in history — 23 games — when he hit a drive that bounced off the top of the wall in right- center field and over in the fourth inning. After he connected, the crowd of 38,843 chanted his name until he tipped his helmet from the top of the dugout steps.

Chris Davis homered twice, and Mark Trumbo hit his major- league- leading 39th homer for the Orioles.

Rockies 9, Nationals 4

Charlie Blackmon homered twice, including the go- ahead shot in a five- run 11th inning, and the Colorado Rockies ended a four- game losing streak by defeating the host Washington Nationals. Carlos Gonzalez also homered for the Rockies, the 200th round- tripper of his career.

Nationals star Bryce Harper was ejected by plate umpire Mike Winters for slamming his helmet to the ground and screaming at him after he was called out on strikes in the 10th.

Athletics 3, Cardinals 2

Max Muncy and Brett Eibner drove in runs in the eighth inning, and the visiting Oakland Athletics held the St. Louis Cardinals without a hit after the fourth on their way to victory. Five A’s pitchers combined to retire the last 17 batters they faced.

Randal Grichuk homered for the Cardinals, who fell to 1- 8 in interleagu­e games at home this season.

Red Sox 8, Royals 3

Dustin Pedroia extended his streak of hits to 11 consecutiv­e at- bats before grounding into a double play in the eighth inning of the host Boston Red Sox’ victory against the Kansas City Royals. The majorleagu­e record of 12 is shared by three players.

Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez homered for the Red Sox, who ended a three- game losing streak.

Blue Jays 8, Twins 7

Melvin Upton Jr. hit a tying triple and continued home on a misplay by right fielder Max Kepler in the eighth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied from an early five- run deficit to edge the visiting Minnesota Twins, who lost their ninth game in a row.

Edwin Encarnacio­n homered and drove in three runs to spark the Blue Jays’ comeback.

Simulated game on deck for Kershaw

The Los Angeles Dodgers said ace Clayton Kershaw has been cleared to throw a simulated game Tuesday in the next step in his recovery from a herniated disk in his lower back. Kershaw ( 11- 2, 1.79 ERA) hasn’t pitched since June 26.
