Age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 16, 2016, in Santa Barbara, California. A resident of Big Sur, Joyce was a shamanic teacher and practition­er who retired as a dedicated teacher and past principal of Pacific Valley School. She was a graduate of St. Sabina, Mercy High School in Chicago and the University of Illinois. A member of the Big Sur Community Response Team and the Elks Club, she will be remembered for her generosity and volunteer work in the community of Big Sur.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Terry and Joe Duffy; and stepmother, Judy Duffy. She is survived by her younger siblings, Noreen ( Guild) Copeland, Bob ( Corky), Mary Ellen, Kevin ( Peggy), Kelly McElheny, Tim ( Mindy), Judy ( Dave) Lukas, Jamie ( Dan) Grand, Jim ( Jen), Mike ( Linda) McElheny, and Theresa McGuire. Joyce was the loving aunt of 22; great- aunt of 9; and cousin to many. She was a dear friend of Don Case; special mother to Josh ( Berta) and Neva Case; and loving grandma of Oceana, Kiana and Surina Case.

Visitation Saturday, October 1, 2016, 12: 30 p. m. to 1: 30 p. m. at St. Barnabas Church, 10134 S. Longwood Drive, Chicago. Funeral Mass at 1: 30 p. m.
