2 sexual assaults reported in DePaul dorms
Two sexual assaults were reported in dorms on DePaul University’s Lincoln Park campus this month.
The most recent assault happened early Thursday in the Munroe dorm at 2312 N. Clifton, according to a DePaul public safety alert.
The other assault happened between 1: 45 and 2: 30 a. m. Oct. 10 in the Belden/ Racine dorm at 2311 N. Racine, according to an alert.
DePaul University staff did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Police trade gunfire with suspects on Far S. Side
Two people were in custody Thursday after Chicago Police officers witnessed a shooting and exchanged gunfire with the suspects in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
Officers responding to an unrelated call at 2: 40 a. m. heard gunshots in the 11800 block of South Lowe, according to police. The officers saw people in a vehicle firing at a group of individuals in that block. When the officers announced themselves, the people in the vehicle fired at the officers, police said. One officer returned fire, but no one was struck.
The vehicle drove westbound on 119th and later crashed in the 4400 block of West 119th Street in Alsip, police said. Three people got out and ran. Two were caught, while police were still searching for the third suspect Thursday. A weapon was recovered from the vehicle.
Due to the manhunt in Alsip, classes were canceled for all District 126 schools.

Exec dead in burning car on S. Side beaten to death
A Barrington Hills man found dead inside a burning car on Chicago’s South Side last month was beaten to death, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The Sept. 23 death of James D. Gerage, 43, was caused by “multiple injuries due to assault” and has been ruled a homicide, the medical examiner said Thursday.
Chicago police said this week they are investigating the case as a homicide. Gerage’s body was found in the back seat of a burning car on the 600 block of West 21st Street, near the Chicago River. Authorities described the area as largely vacant.
Gerage was co- owner of Elgin- based Omega Demolition Corp. The company has worked on demolition of the Ohio Street feeder bridge at the Kennedy Expressway.

Detainee briefly escapes
A Cook County Jail detainee briefly escaped custody Wednesday after a court appearance on the Far South Side.
Brandon Crosby, 21, ran away in handcuffs about 11: 15 a. m. while boarding a bus after his appearance at the courthouse at 727 E. 111th St., Cook County sheriff ’s spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.
Deputies ran after him, and Chicago Police officers took him into custody near 111th and Cottage Grove.
