Luck, Colts overwhelm Jets
Andrew Luck passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns — including three to tight end Dwayne Allen in the first half — before leaving early in the fourth quarter, and the visiting Indianapolis Colts rolled to a 41- 10 victory Monday against the New York Jets.
Luck threw touchdown passes of seven and 21 yards to Allen in the first quarter, 23 yards to Allen in the second and three yards to Donte Moncrief in the third for the Colts ( 6- 6), who moved into a three- way tie with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans for first place in the AFC South.
Ryan Fitzpatrick was 5- for- 12 for 81 yards with an interception in the first half before the Jets ( 3- 9) replaced him with Bryce Petty in the second. Petty finished 11- for- 25 for 135 yards with a 40- yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson and two interceptions.
Vikes coach Zimmer back
Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer returned to work after missing the team’s game last week against the Dallas Cowboys in the wake of major eye surgery.
The Vikings said Zimmer, who had an emergency operation to repair a detached retina in his right eye, is expected to travel with them this weekend to Florida for their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He reportedly has had four eye surgeries in the last month.
Thomas out for season
Coach Pete Carroll said the Seattle Seahawks will be without safety Earl Thomas for the rest of the season — no matter how far they advance in the playoffs — after he suffered a broken left leg Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Thomas was hurt when he collided with teammate Kam Chancellor while going for an interception in the second quarter. He was taken off the field on a cart.
Migraines shelve Harvin
Receiver Percy Harvin’s return from retirement lasted only two games after the Buffalo Bills put him on the reserve/ non- football- illness list because of a recurrence of migraines.
Harvin missed his second consecutive game Sunday against the Oakland Raiders because of the headaches. The Bills lured him out of a one- year retirement last month to shore up their banged- up receiving corps.
This and that
Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso had surgery to repair the broken right thumb he suffered Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but coach Adam Gase said he might be able to play this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Denver Broncos claimed running back Justin Forsett off waivers from the Detroit Lions to replace Kapri Bibbs, who went on injured reserve with a high sprain of his left ankle.
Washington Redskins safety Will Blackmon and center Spencer Long are in the NFL’s concussion protocol after being injured Sunday against the Cardinals.
