Bears sign WR to futures deal

The Bears signed former New York Giants receiver Rueben Randle to a reserve/ futures deal Tuesday, adding depth to a position group that might need it.

Randle, a second- round pick from LSU, started 33 games and appeared in 31 others for the Giants from 2012 to 2015. He caught 188 passes for 2,644 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Randle, 25, spent last offseason with the Philadelph­ia Eagles before being released in late August. He joins a Bears receiving corps that has an uncertain future. Alshon Jeffery’s franchise tag is set to expire, and Kevin White is recovering from surgery on his left fibula.

The San Francisco 49ers interviewe­d Carolina Panthers defensive coordinato­r Sean McDermott for their head- coaching vacancy and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for their generalman­ager job.

The Denver Broncos interviewe­d Miami Dolphins defensive coordinato­r Vance Joseph for their head- coaching vacancy.

Tide RB has broken leg

Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough suffered a broken bone in his lower right leg late in the third quarter of the College Football Playoff championsh­ip game Monday against Clemson, but Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said he won’t require surgery and is expected to recover fully.

Scarbrough had run for 93 yards, including touchdowns of 25 and 37 yards in the first half, before the injury.

Michigan defensive back Jabrill Peppers, Wisconsin offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk and Florida State offensive tackle Rod Johnson announced they will give up their final seasons of college eligibilit­y and make themselves available for the NFL draft.

Ohio State hired former Indiana coach Kevin Wilson to be its co- offensive coordinato­r. Wilson was 26- 47 in six seasons with the Hoosiers before resigning last month over what was called a difference in leadership styles.

World Cup field growing

The FIFA Council voted unanimousl­y to expand the World Cup field from 32 teams to 48 for the 2026 tournament. The new format will feature 16 three- team groups, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the round of 32.
