Big game by Law lifts Cats
Vic Law scored a gamehigh 23 points with eight rebounds, Scottie Lindsey added 14 points and Isiah Brown came off the bench to tally 11 as visiting Northwestern ( 144, 3- 2 Big Ten) dumped skidding Rutgers ( 11- 7, 0- 5) 69- 60 on Thursday night.
Rutgers jumped out to a 7- 0 lead and led 28- 19 with 2: 04 left in the half before Northwestern was able to cut into the advantage to make it 28- 25 at the break.
The Wildcats went on a 6- 0 run early in the second half to take its first lead of the game, 33- 32, at the 17: 19 mark.
Corey Sanders led Rutgers with 18 points. The hosts shot just 31.9 percent.
UIC 59, Cleveland St. 54
Godwin Boahen scored seven of 10 points during a 24- 7 second- half surge to help the Flames ( 9- 8, 2- 2 Horizon League) take a road victory against the Vikings ( 5- 12, 1- 4).
Cleveland State led 39- 30 before the Flames took a 5446 lead with 2: 18 remaining. Boahen made two layups and a three- pointer, Dominique Matthews scored six of his 11 points, and Tarkus Ferguson added five of his six points during the stretch.
Cleveland State pulled to 58- 54 and had the ball with 23.8 seconds to go, but Kasheem Thomas missed a reverse layup on the next possession. Ferguson grabbed the rebound and split two free throws to seal it.
Chicago State 83, Utah Valley 78
The Cougars ( 5- 14, 1- 2 Western Athletic) found their shooting touch in the second half and picked up a road victory over the Wolverines ( 8- 9, 0- 2), who made just four of 27 threes. Sophomore guard Fred Sims Jr. led Chicago State with 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Clemmye Owens V bounced off the bench to contribute 14 points.
Notre Dame 67, Miami 62
V. J. Beachem sank the go- ahead basket and made the clinching steal as the No. 20 Fighting Irish ( 15- 2, 4- 0 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied from a four- point deficit in the final 2 ½ minutes to beat the host Hurricanes ( 11- 4, 1- 2). Notre Dame outscored Miami 10- 1 down the stretch to earn their sixth consecutive victory and snap the Hurricanes’ 21game home winning streak.
Iowa 83, Purdue 78
Peter Jok scored 29 points with eight assists and six rebounds and the host Hawkeyes ( 11- 7, 3- 2 Big Ten) rallied from a nine- point halftime deficit to top the No. 17 Boilermakers ( 14- 4, 3- 2). Freshman Tyler Cook chipped in 16 points.
Wisconsin 89, Ohio St. 66
Bronson Koenig scored 21 points as the No. 18 Badgers ( 14- 3, 3- 1 Big Ten) blitzed the visiting Buckeyes ( 10- 7, 0- 4).
Murray St. 83, E. Ill. 72
Terrell Miller Jr. ( 18 points and 14 rebounds) paced the Racers ( 9- 9, 3- 1 Ohio Valley) against the host Panthers ( 9- 8, 1- 3). Ray Crossland led EIU with 18 points.
