Pack WR Adams has ankle injury
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that receiver Davante Adams might not practice until Saturday because of an ankle injury.
Adams is the latest question mark for a receiving corps that also might be without Jordy Nelson for the NFC Championship Game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
Adams suffered the injury in the Packers’ 34- 31 divisional- playoff victory Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. He had a breakout regular season with 75 catches for 997 yards and 12 touchdowns.
McCarthy said Adams would focus on rehab during practice for a couple of days, as would Nelson. Nelson, who led the NFL with 14 touchdown catches during the regular season, missed the game against the Cowboys with injured ribs suffered in the Packers’ wildcard victory Jan. 8 against the New York Giants.
Falcons’ Jones doesn’t practice
Falcons receiver Julio Jones was held out of practice after aggravating his sprained toe in the team’s divisional- playoff victory Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Jones, who is expected to play in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday against the Packers, participated in a walk- through session before missing the regular practice. Coach Dan Quinn said the plan is to get him more work as the week goes on.
Jones missed two regular- season games with the toe injury but still finished second in the NFL with 1,409 yards receiving.
Steelers’ Brown apologizes
Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown apologized for live- streaming video from the team’s locker room after its divisional- playoff victory Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brown posted a message on Facebook and Twitter that said he let his ‘‘ emotions and general excitement’’ get the best of him. Brown’s 17- minute- long live stream caught coach Mike Tomlin using a handful of profanities during his postgame speech, including a derogatory term for the New England Patriots.
Tomlin called his own choice of words regrettable and said Brown was selfish for airing what is usually a private moment. The video received more than 900,000 views before being removed.
Jaguars keep Hackett as OC
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone named Nathaniel Hackett to be his offensive coordinator, opting not to give the job to former San Francisco 49ers coach Chip Kelly, who interviewed for the post early this week.
Hackett served as the Jaguars’ interim offensive coordinator for the last nine games this season after Greg Olson was fired. He began the season as the Jaguars’ quarterbacks coach.
Giants’ Beckham king of Twitter
Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had the most engagement on Twitter among NFL players this season. Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott was second.
The list, compiled by MWWPR and the sports- influencer network Opendorse, looked not only at who tweeted the most but also at which players had the highest engagement rate, with a minimum of 100,000 followers and 100 tweets.
