REDS 6, CUBS 2 D- BACKS 3, CUBS 1

- — Gordon Wittenmyer

Let’s play two

The Cubs’ top two hitting prospects, Eloy Jimenez ( sacrifice fly) and Ian Happ ( single), drove in their two runs in the seventh inning of the afternoon game against the Reds.

Against Arizona, Kyle Schwarber was switched from DH to left field, where he played six innings and made a nice catch drifting toward the foul line on the only ball hit his way. He was 0- for- 3 at the plate but nearly homered.

Zastryzny leaves start

Left- hander Rob Zastryzny, who debuted last summer, left his start against the Reds in the third inning after being struck in the right calf by a shot back to the mound. He pitched to three more batters, then left with the trainer.

‘‘ It didn’t feel too bad, so I kind of walked it off,’’ he said. ‘‘ Two pitches later, I could feel it tightening up.’’

Zastryzny dismissed any notion he might miss his next turn.

Heyward watch

Jason Heyward, who struggled through his worst offensive season in 2016, remained hitless this spring after two fly balls and a grounder to first in three at- bats against the Reds. But he said he’s more comfortable at the plate than he was last season.

‘‘ I like that I’m swinging at strikes,’’ he said. ‘‘ It’s just all about trying to get them in the zone.’’

Pen stars on tap

The Cubs’ top relievers are scheduled to make their spring debuts this weekend. Pedro Strop, Hector Rondon and Carl Edwards Jr. are slated to follow Kyle Hendricks on Saturday against the Dodgers. New closer Wade Davis, Koji Uehara and Justin Grimm are scheduled to follow Jon Lester on Sunday.
