COPS: STROLLER CONTAINED GUNS

-

An 18- year- old Back of the Yards woman faces weapons charges after she was stopped by Chicago Police as she pushed a baby stroller containing a rifle, handgun and ammunition early Monday morning.

Yarisma Martinez lived a few blocks froma house in the 4500 block of South Hermitage, where a police surveillance camera spotted a man firing a rifle on the street around midnight, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The camera showed 18- year- old Martinez and another woman arriving at the house soon after, carrying a bag as they entered. The pair left the house, this time pushing a stroller and carrying a diaper bag.

Police stopped Martinez as she pushed the stroller south down South Wood Street and asked her if she had any weapons, according to a police report. Martinez directed the officer to look in the stroller, the report said.

The officers found a Mossberg 30- 30 rifle with two live rounds and a spent shell inside wrapped in a blanket, prosecutors said. Also in the stroller was a loaded 9mm pistol with an additional 15- round magazine and a box of bullets.

Prosecutors said Martinez had no prior criminal record, but Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered her held on $ 20,000 bail on Tuesday.

“Here is an 18- year- old with two guns on the streets of our city,” Ciesil said at a hearing in Cook County Central Bond Court, prompting frowns from half a dozen relatives. Andy Grimm

Nurse allegedly robbed S. Loop pharmacy twice, arrested on 3rd attempt

A 58- year- old nurse robbed the same South Loop Osco twice before she was arrested making a third attempt Monday, prosecutors said.

Ernelle Oliver, of south suburban Richton Park, was arrested at the Jewel- Osco at 1340 S. Canal. Prosecutors say Oliver admitted to robbing the same store two weeks earlier, as well as on Jan. 27. Each time, Oliver made off with hundreds of tablets of the prescription antidepressant alprazolam, also known by the brand name Xanax. In the January robbery, Oliver went to the pharmacy counter holding an object and told the pharmacist, “Give me your Xanax and don’t push any buttons, or I will shoot you,” according to a Chicago Police report. The pharmacist turned over two containers of pills with 262 tablets. On March 17, Oliver took more than 500 Xanax pills.

Oliver came back to the store again Monday, and was spotted by store security and held until police arrived. Prosecutors said Oliver confessed and said she had “mental health issues.” State records show Oliver has a valid nursing license. Andy Grimm
