Man killed near Red Line station

A man is in custody after another man was shot to death early Monday near a CTA Red Line station on the South Side, authoritie­s said.

At 2: 39 a. m., the 33- yearold victim was arguing with another male in the street in the 200 block of West Garfield when the male took out a handgun and fired multiple shots, according to Chicago Police.

Police initially said the shooting happened on the platform of the Garfield Station, but then later said the two men were instructed to leave CTA property by a CTA employee. They walked west on Garfield before the suspect opened fire.

The man was shot in the head and chest and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 3: 53 a. m., police said and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. His identity has not been released.

Police said a 33- year- old man was in custody Monday and charges were pending. Nader Issa

1 dead, 1wounded in South Shore drive- by

A man was killed and a woman was critically wounded Monday morning in a South Shore neighborho­od drive- by shooting, authoritie­s said.

A 26- year- old woman was driving a vehicle with a man in the passenger seat about 11: 25 a. m. in the 7000 block of South Chappel Avenue when another vehicle drove by and opened fire, police said.

The man, believed to be between 20 and 27 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was taken to Northweste­rn Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Tom Schuba

2 hurt in Bridgeport crash

Two men were injured in a head- on crash late Sunday in the Bridgeport neighborho­od on the South Side.

Shortly before midnight, a 27- year- old man was driving west in the 2800 block of South Archer when his white car crashed headon with another white car headed eastbound, according to Chicago Police.

Both drivers, who were the only people in their cars, were taken to Stroger Hospital, authoritie­s said. The man driving the eastbound car had to be extricated from the vehicle and was listed in critical condition. The other man was in serious condition. 33-year- oldwoman found strangled in Schaumburg

A woman was found strangled on Sunday in her apartment in northwest suburban Schaumburg.

Officers went to an apartment Sunday in the 2600 block of Clipper Drive to check on 33- year- old Tiffany Thrasher and found her body inside, Schaumburg police said.

An autopsy Monday found Thrasher died of strangulat­ion, and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was strangled between 8 p. m. Saturday and 8 p. m. Sunday, police said. Detectives were interviewi­ng her friends, family and associates to develop leads. Matthew Hendrickso­n

Police recover guns from unlicensed party bus

Police recovered guns and drugs from an overcrowde­d, unlicensed party bus Friday night on the South Side, authoritie­s said.

Around 9: 45 p. m., officers received informatio­n about weapons on a party bus carrying 41 passengers in the 1200 block of South Lake Shore Drive, according to Chicago Police.

Officers recovered three semi- automatic handguns, narcotics and marijuana, police said.

Two 22- year- old men and a 24- year- old man on the bus were documented gang members, police said. They were taken into custody for parole violations and charged with misdemeano­rs.

Citations were also issued because the bus did not have a valid license and was carrying an excessive amount of passengers, police said.

2shot on Near WestSide

Two men were shot Monday afternoon on the Near West Side.

The men, ages 18 and 24, were walking down the street in the 300 block of South Leavitt at 12: 24 p. m. when shots rang out, according to Chicago Police.

Both men went to Rush University Medical Center, police said. One was shot in the neck and listed in serious condition, and the other suffered a graze wound to the face and was in good condition. Jordan Owen

Gun found at middle school after Snapchat post

A handgun was recovered Monday afternoon at a west suburban Berwyn middle school after a student posted a video of it to the social networking platform Snapchat.

Around 1: 40 p. m., officers responded to Lincoln Middle School, 6432W. 16th St., and were informed a student posted a video to Snapchat that appeared to show a gun, according to a post on the Berwyn Police Department’s Facebook page.

During a search, the handgun was recovered. Berwyn police held four people in connection with the incident while they investigat­ed. Francesca Gattuso

Man critically wounded in Austin drive- by shooting

A man was critically wounded in a drive- by shooting Monday in the West Side Austin neighborho­od.

The 28- year- old man was in the 5500 block of West North Avenue at 10: 11 a. m. when a dark- colored sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. Tom Schuba
