Man charged with machete attack in Round Lake Park

Juan Casanova, 42, of Round Lake Park, attacked his roommate with a machete after an argument over the cost of constructi­on work done at his home, police said.

About 3: 30 p. m. Wednesday, officers responded to a disturbanc­e in the 200 block of Windridge Drive. A 42- year- old man was in front of the house and told officers he had been attacked by Casanova with a machete, police said. The victim suffered only minor wounds.

The attack was the result of an argument between the men over several thousand dollars owed to the victim for constructi­on labor at Casanova’s home, police said. The men lived together in the home.

Casanova was already wanted on a $ 25,000 arrest warrant out of Lake County for failure to appear on a driving while license revoked charge. He also has an immigratio­n and naturaliza­tion service warrant.

Police: Good Samaritans carjacked on I- 294

Bernard Bush, 52, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, has been charged with carjacking two good Samaritans who stopped to help him after a crash Monday night on the Tri- State Tollway in the southwest suburbs.

At 7: 26 p. m., troopers were dispatched to a crash on southbound I- 294 at 95th Street in Hickory Hills, police said. While the troopers were on their way, a good Samaritan stopped at the scene to try to help.

Bush, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, forced the driver and passenger of the car that stopped out of their car, then drove off in it southbound on I- 294, police said. He was arrested a short time later in Calumet City, police said.

Man charged with throwing chair at man who later died

The death of a 71- year- old man who had a chair thrown at him at a West Side nursing home 10 months ago has been ruled a homicide.

On June 7, 2016, 31- year- old Nicholas Brown threw a chair at 71- year- old Timothy Everett at a nursing home in the 1500 block of South Albany Avenue, police said.

The incident was caught on surveillan­ce camera, according to police.

An autopsy Wednesday found Everett died of complicati­ons of blunt force trauma to the head, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Woman seriously injured in W. Pullman hit- and- run

A woman was seriously injured in a hit- and- run crash Thursday morning in the West Pullman neighborho­od on the Far South Side.

The 20- year- old woman was driving southbound in the 600 block of West 117th Place about 10: 30 a. m. when her vehicle was struck by a red Pontiac that ran a stop sign, according to police.

The male driver of the Pontiac drove off after the crash and was not in custody as of Thursday afternoon, police said. Jordan Owen

A man is in custody after an eight- hour standoff with police Thursday morning in the South Side Avalon Park neighborho­od.

A SWAT team responded about 4: 45 a. m. to a man barricaded alone inside a home in the 8200 block of South Dante, according to Chicago Police. Police said the man was taken into custody about 1: 30 p. m. Ashlee Rezin

Authoritie­s find fugitive in Beach Pk. with guns, drugs

A fugitive taken into custody Wednesday in north suburban Beach Park was found with loaded firearms, cocaine and marijuana.

Raymundo Acosta, 27, of Beach Park, was wanted on a $ 250,000 failure to appear warrant for four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, delivery of marijuana and battery, according to the Lake County sheriff ’s office.

Acosta was arrested Wednesday at a mobile home where he was staying in the 38400 block of North Sheridan Road, police said. Tom Schuba
