Prairie Ridge QB Evans racking up offers

- BETH LONG

Prairie Ridge junior Samson Evans is one of the most talented players in the state. The quarterback has scholarship offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa State and others.

Evans had 1,363 rushing yards and 740 passing yards and accounted for 42 touchdowns last season. He led the Wolves to an undefeated season and the Class 6A state title.

Although Evans has received plenty of recruiting interest, he’s busy with track season.

“I don’t have that many new schools interested,” Evans said.

Evans’ last visit was an unofficial one to Kentucky for the spring game. He’s turning his focus to his senior season.

“The offseason is going pretty well. Just working on the little things and trying to get my body 100 percent going into the season,” Evans said.

Evans has several things he’s looking for when he starts taking visits.

“I’m really just excited to meet the coaches and just to get a feel of the atmosphere of the school,” he said. “See what it’s like there and see all the facilities.”

Robinson adds interest

One breakout performer this offseason is Waubonsie Valley tight end Charles Robinson. A long and lean 6- 3, 210- pounder, Robinson has showcased good hands and athleticism this spring.

“Recruiting has been kind of slow lately, but everyone’s been telling me I posted some good numbers,” Robinson said.

Robinson has several goals heading into his senior season.

“My goal this offseason is to improve on my footwork and keep working in the weight room to get bigger,” he said.

Robinson is hearing the most from Temple, Illinois, Ohio and Illinois State. The recruiting process has been one to remember for the Warriors standout receiver.

“The best part about recruiting has been meeting the new people and meeting a ton of football players that are working towards the same goal as me,” Robinson said.

On upcoming visits, Robinson knows exactly what he’ll be looking for, as well.

“With spring visits, I’m looking forward to just going to the colleges and seeing which one is the best for me,” Robinson said. “I’m also looking to narrow down my decision. Plus, I’ll be looking mostly for a place with a good culture.”

Robinson has offers from Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Wyoming, Miami ( Ohio) and others. The most recent visit Robinson took was to Northern Illinois.

“I am getting recruited as a tight end,” Robinson said.

Henderson to Minnesota

Glenbard North junior athlete Tyrik Henderson made an oral commitment to Minnesota on Wednesday.

Henderson announced his commitment via social media, saying he was “100- percent committed” to the Gophers.
